Oren Lee Johnson

Oren Lee Johnson, or (Iver) to his friends, was born September 1, 1944 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Leland and Sarafern Johnson, He was the oldest of 4 children. He passed away on March 24, 2018. He was a very proud and stubborn man who loved life and everything around him. He graduated from Virgin Valley High School in 1962 and attended Dixie State College.

Oren is a Vietnam veteran, who proudly served his country from 1965-1967. He was stationed in Fort Sill, then went on to serve in Pleiku Vietnam. His platoon was one of the first to arrive. He was very honored to serve his country and proud of his time in the service. He was enlisted in the MACV Unit Crest 2 core. His first 6 months were spent as a mail carrier, and his remaining time was spent in the survey department. He went on to survey the roads through enemy territory that would later earn him the bronze star. He also earned the sharp shooting award.

Oren worked in Las Vegas as a construction worker for over 30 years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 25 years. He built many bridges for various companies like, Frehner Construction, Max and Tedd Riggs, Morrison and Knudsen, and Las Vegas paving. He was a supervisor of many different jobs. He was a master welder and worked with concrete. He could build just about anything you wanted and it would be dang near perfect when he was done. He was a hard working man. It was hard to not like him with his dry sense of humor and witty charm.

One of Oren’s favorite things to do was hunt and camp. He was hunting every chance he got. If he didn’t have a deer tag, he went along to guide, to share stories and to harass. He loved to brag about the shots he made. He has the right to brag since he is one of the best shots around. He loved to reload since that was the only way to get the perfect rounds. He kept detailed records of each load, the grain of the powder, and bullet brand he used.

He was out fishing every chance he got. He was quite the fisherman, so when he bragged about being better than everyone else he was probably right. He liked to have a friendly competition to see who could catch the most and the biggest fish. He has endless fishing stories about him and his friends out on the lake.

He had property in Central, Utah, it was dubbed "The Land" by him and all who knew him. This was one of his favorite places to be. He spent every minute he could camping, gardening, fishing and being with his friends and family. He grew everything from grapes, to giant pumpkins there. He raised chukars, pheasants, and chickens there.

We spent many nights camping and sitting around the fire talking hunting stories.

Oren is survived by his children Tara(Matt) Wolfley, and Cassie Johnson. He has 6 grandchildren; Dayton Wolfley, (currently serving in the Independence, Missouri Mission for the LDS Church), Madison Wolfley; Shayla Wolfley, Sierra Wolfley, Austin Workman, and Ethan Workman. He is also survived by one brother, Randy Johnson. He is preceded in death by his mother; Sarafern, father; Lee, brother; Alan, and sister, Lori. This man will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a man who would do anything for his friends and loved ones. He was a fighter, and a great father who cared deeply for his kids and grandkids. Services will be held at the Bunkerville Chapel, at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
