Paul Dennis Weiss

Paul Dennis Weiss, 71, passed away on June 15, 2019 in St. George, UT. Paul was born on December 5, 1947 in Denison, IA to Edward Nash and Velma Jeanne Price. He married Marilyn Jo Houseman in Denver, CO on August, 31, 1968. 

Much of Paul’s life revolved around music. He grew up playing various instruments, but had a passion for playing the trumpet. After graduating from college, Paul joined the U.S. Army and played in their band for several years. Upon leaving the Service, Paul began a career in teaching music in Colorado. He was able to play any instrument, and greatly impacted the hundreds of students he taught over a thirty-year period. He worked closely with the United Methodist Church in Mesquite, NV with their choir program, and was directing the bells. He played professionally with the Bill Ricker Orchestra. He passed his love of music to his children, and taught them both in high school, and spoke at their graduation. 

Later in life, Paul moved to Mesquite, NV with Marilyn, where they enjoyed playing golf in the warm weather. Paul was a skilled craftsman, and made many of his own golf clubs and gifted many for his friends and family. He also taught himself how to paint. He was recognized for his intelligence and dry, witty humor. It usually took three other people to beat him in Trivial Pursuit. Paul cared for the people around him, more than for himself. He was well known, and his children would often find people that knew Paul wherever they went. 

Paul is survived by his wife; Marilyn Weiss, his daughter; Jennifer Jo Weiss, his son; Jeffrey Paul (Missy) Weiss, his grandchildren; Chandler Brandon Ellis, Turner Paul Weiss, and Cassandra Lynn Weiss, and his brother; David Weiss. He is preceded in death by his parents; Edward Nash and Velma Benton. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at the United Methodist Church on 420 Turtleback Road, Mesquite, NV on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to consider a donation to the United Methodist Church Choir Program with checks made payable to Mesquite United Methodist Church with Choir in the memo.
