Amber Mae Terry, age 94, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 in Columbia, Tennessee.
Amber was born March 24, 1927 in Pioche, Nevada to Ernest Vernon Gubler and Opal Lorraine (Alexander) Gubler. Early in her life, she and her parents moved to Logandale, Nevada. She graduated from Moapa Valley High School in 1945. Amber married Curtis Waite and they had a son, Garry Curtis Waite. They later divorced.
Amber married the love of her life, Willard Terry, in November 1949 in Las Vegas and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Utah Temple in February 1956. They together had a daughter, Becky. Amber and Willard welcomed her son, Garry, and Willard’s children, Tony and Carol, into their expanded family circle. Willard and Amber lived in Las Vegas where he worked as a Greyhound bus driver and general contractor.
Amber was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After retirement, Willard and Amber served a mission for the Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. Willard served in the blacksmith shop and Amber served in the Lucy Mack Smith and Sarah Granger Kimball homes. While in Nauvoo, Willard performed as a magician in the weekly variety show and Amber served as his assistant. After returning from their mission in 1984, they moved to St. George, Utah where Willard passed away in 1987. Amber later served two more missions, one in Salt Lake City and the other in St. George. Over the years, Amber served the Church in many ways, including Primary President, both Ward and Stake, Relief Society President, organist, temple worker, and many other areas. Her life of service has been truly remarkable.
For health reasons, Amber moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 2017, where she lived in her little cottage by her daughter, Becky, and Duane.
Survivors include her daughter, Becky Terry Bartle (Duane); daughter-in-law, Paula Ann Waite; son, Tony Gordon Terry (Renae); son-in-law, William Evans Carlson (Cherie); sisters, Delma Gubler Johnson, Audrey Jean Gubler Johnson, Verla Ann Gubler Adams (Elwyn); brother, Douglas Ernest Gubler; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
