Barbara Jean Maxwell, 81, passed away on February 3, 2026 in St. George, UT. Barbara was born on September 3, 1944 in Portland, ME to Ray Benton Hardin and Dorothy Ruth Sanders. She married Larry Samuel Maxwell in Salinas, CA on January 6, 1979.
Barbara and Larry lived many years in Salinas, CA. She worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company, now known as AT&T, for over thirty years as an administrator. After retiring, she and Larry owned a Drag Race shop where Barbara was the bookkeeper. They moved to Overton, NV in 2002 where they made many friends in the Drag Race community and would go racing in Las Vegas and across the country. Barbara loved art; she was a talented painter and loved working with ceramics and stained glass. She was an avid reader. She was wise, respectful, and always friendly. She was loved by her family and will be missed.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Larry S. Maxwell; her children, Gabriella Van Steen; Linda (Brian) Stoffey, and Mark (Stephanie) Maxwell; her six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her three siblings, Bonnie (Richard, deceased) Anderson, Beverly Van Fosson, and Brian (Teresa) Van Fosson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Dorothy Sanders.
