Heber Jay Tobler, 90, passed away July 26, 2025 at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah. Heber was born on December 29, 1934, to LaVera Henrie and Heber Lamar Tobler. He was raised by his father Julius Lyle Hannig and mother LaVera with his 5 sisters in Boulder City, Nevada.
He learned the value of hard work at a young age. He started his career as a 10 year old news boy, became an accountant, served as President of Vegas Village, and opened various businesses in Southern Nevada. He attended Boulder City High School, working part time and participating in sports and student government. After graduation, he attend the University of Utah. He served a 2 1/2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Brazilian Mission. Returning to the University of Utah after his mission to earn a Masters in Business Administration. While attending Boy’s State in high school Heber met Zona Arlene Thacker who was attending Girl’s State. She would become his sweetheart and eternal companion. They were sealed December 20, 1958 in the St George Temple. They began the adventure of raising their 4 children in Boulder City, Nevada. After their children were raised, they would call Overton, Nevada their home Heber enjoyed life, was optimistic, expressed gratitude and appreciation to those around him, shared his wit and humor as much as possible, was an occasional tease and had a tender heart when it came to those he loved. He loved sports, BYU, waterskiing, boating, fishing, a good Western movie and other hobbies.
Heber lived a life of service to his country, community, church and family. His love, wisdom, sense of humor, and generosity shaped the lives of many. He served in the military as a training office for 1 1/2 years then 6 years in the reserves. He served on the city counsel and as mayor of Boulder City, Nevada. He served in many capacities within his faith sharing his testimony and faith through good works, teaching and service. Heber always considered his family his greatest blessing, accomplishment and source of joy. Heber was a devoted and loyal friend, son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. While he was a friend to all he was everything to his children and grandchildren. Grandpa was probably his favorite title. He has cherished memories and adventures with each of them.
Heber bravely faced the disabling challenges of aging and peacefully passed surrounded by family to be welcomed by his sweet wife, family and friends that have passed on.
Heber was preceded in death by his sweetheart and wife Zona Arlene Thacker, by his parents and sisters Doris, Sharlene and Sandra. He is survived by his children; son Steven (Marie) of Mesa Arizona; daughter Shirley (Stann) of New Harmony, Utah; son Roger (Alyson) of Boulder City, Nevada, and Randall (Stephanie) of Logandale, Nevada; and two sisters, Florence (George) and Joan. Heber has 21 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren on the way.
Services for Heber Jay Tobler will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hinkley Chapel in Logandale, Nevada with a viewing from 9:30-10:30.
