John Raymond “Jack” Johnston, age 87, died Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah. He was born in Culver City, California, to William Raymond and Vida Adelia Griggs Johnston. On June 21, 1968, he was married and sealed for time and all eternity to Charlotte Lynne Stewart in the St. George Utah Temple.
His mother raised Jack in Beverly Hills. He loved riding horses and all the adventures of city life. During High School he and his mother owned and operated an A&W Root Beer stand. After graduating from University High School, he served in the US Army before transitioning to the Army National Guard. He enjoyed a career at Douglas Aircraft as a Technical Illustrator for the Missile and Space Systems Group. After retiring he had a successful second career in real estate and property management.
A “Jack of All Trades”, he could fix anything, and he especially enjoyed working on cars and gardening. He built a cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains with a close friend and enjoyed camping throughout the western states with his family and friends. With his wife, he served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints youth scouting programs and girl’s camp. They welcomed friends and neighbors to their home and beloved swimming pool where he often served his famous “Jack Burgers”. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Remembered now with love by his wife, Lynne; three daughters and two sons: Jennifer Johnston; Jed (Amy) Johnston; Julie (Geoffrey) Bolton; Jill (Eric) Lalliss; Joseph Johnston; daughter in law, Tawnie Johnston, and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jason.
