James Ordell Jones
James “Jim” Ordell Jones, age 80, died peacefully Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his home in Logandale, Nevada. He was born September 12, 1944, in St. George, Utah to Ordell and Loraine Jones. On September 9, 1966, he married Kathy Rae Dalton in the St. George LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on May 30, 2021.
Jim spent much of his early life in St. George, Utah. He attended Dixie High School Class of 1963, served in the national guard, and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Australia. After returning from his mission Jim worked with his father and brothers as general contractors building homes, with a focus mainly on masonry work. He had a passion for work and shared his work ethic with his children. While raising his family he resided in Payson, Nephi, and St. George Utah. In 1988, he relocated his family to Las Vegas, Nevada where he continued working as a brick mason and contractor. After his wife passed away, he moved to Logandale to be closer to his children. Jim enjoyed riding and caring for horses. He loved his family and enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his work ethic, integrity and love of family.
Survivors include one son and three daughters: Karen (Mike) Roundy of St. George; Russell (Michelle) Jones of Overton, NV; Janelle (Mike) Baker of St. George, UT; Melissa Andersen of Logandale; eleven (11) grandchildren: Shawn (Amanda) Baker, Alex (Dalton) Poynor, Allison (Tyler) VonHatten, Shelby (Tanner Lee; Dalton Jones, Trey Jones, Destry Jones, Jonathan (Sophia) Roundy, Abigail Andersen, Shane Baker, and Bella Andersen; and four (4) great grandchildren; two (2) brothers and five (5) sisters: Louise Oliekan, Douglas (DeAnn) Jones, Heber (Susan) Jones, Jeana (Charlie) Kimball, LouAnn (Mike) Savage, Marie (Roger) Nelson and Shirley (Richard) Joos. He was preceded in death by his father, Ordell Jones, his mother, Loraine Hoyt Jones, and Brother-in-law Rulon Hal (Bo) Oliekan.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 8, 2025 at 10 a.m. MST at the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
