James “Jim” R. Stinson Sr. was born in Franklin, Tennessee, to his father, William Stinson, and mother, Edna Langford, on April 17, 1949. Jim was affectionately known to his family and friends as Jimbo. Jim was raised with his siblings, Billy Stinson, Andy Stinson, and Sharon Stinson of Franklin, Tennessee.
Jim joined the Air Force in 1968 with tours in Thailand and Guam during the Vietnam War. When stationed in Tampa, Florida, Jim met the love of his life and future wife, Suzette. They married on December 23, 1974. They began their journey in Tampa, Fl. then moved to England, and back to Tampa, Fl. before settling in Norh Las Vegas, NV., where Jim retired at Nellis Air Force Base 1989. Jim Opened the Excalibur in 1988 as a security officer and set the bar high, being one of the first security officers that rode horseback while on patrol. In 1999 he went to work for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as a Supply Clerk, where he retired in 2021.
Jim loved animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats. He enjoyed watching football, playing golf, and gardening. His favorite team was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He dearly loved his granddaughter, Ivoree, and was extremely proud of all of her accomplishments in dance.
Jim was called home to God on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He was proceeded in death by his father (William Stinson), his mother (Edna Langford), brother (Andy Stinson), and sister (Sharon Stinson).
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Suzette Stinson; his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Dale Alley; sons Christopher and James (Jr.) Stinson; his brother, Billy Stinson of Franklin, TN; grandchildren Ivoree Marie Stinson and Cru Michael Stinson of North Las Vegas, NV; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial, Boulder City, Nevada. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
