James Allen Walden

December 31, 1940 — June 11, 2025

James Allen Walden, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. He was born on December 31, 1940, in South point, Ohio, to Roy and Thelma Walden. James was the younger of two boys and cherished the special connection he shared with his big brother, Gary. James carried with him a joyful spirit that would define his life.

James graduated from Western Washington University in 1967 and later earned a Master’s degree in Education and Administration from Northern Arizona University. That same year, he married his Queen, Linda Gail Bickerstaff on October 26, 1967, and together they began their greatest adventure – raising five sons.

A natural teacher in every sense, James dedicated over 38 years to education in Clark County, Nevada. He was more than an instructor; he was a mentor, role model, and cherished friend to thousands of students who still remember him as one of the most beloved teachers in the valley.

James had an incredible sense of humor, a magnetic personality, and a gift for spreading sunshine wherever he went. He had a deep love for music – he could play just about anything with strings and had a deep love for singing and performing. He founded the country band Muddy River Boys, sharing his talents on stage and bringing joy to audiences with his musical charm. He also gave generously of his time as a coach for wrestling and swimming, instilling confidence and determination in countless young athletes.

His life was one of deep faith and quiet strength. James served in numerous capacities within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including two full-time missions, several bishoprics, several stake presidencies, high council, teacher, scout leader, and dedicated genealogist. He found great joy in temple service and in helping others strengthen their eternal ties to family – a labor of love he continued with devotion until the end of his life.

James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda; five sons: Robert Walden (Michael Tapia), Matthew Walden (Robin Walden), Benjamin Walden, Daniel Walden (Lindsay Walden), Spencer Walden; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Thelma, and his brother, Gary.

James made life better for everyone around him. He was a man of calm presence, unwavering kindness, and uplifting words – known best for his signature phrase: “Keep Smiling.” He lived those words daily, and they will live on through the many lives he touched.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 1:30 – 2:15 p.m., followed by a Celebration of His Life at 2:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bloomington 3rd Ward Chapel, 3519 Manzanita Rd., St. George, Utah 84790. Interment will take place on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 9 a.m. PST in the Logandale Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
