James “Jim” Montgomery Bledsoe, Sr., age 96, died peacefully at his home in Overton, Nevada on January 28, 2026 with family surrounding his bed. He was born February 6, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to Robert Creech and Arta Hounchell Bledsoe. On December 27, 1953 he married Donallorene Murphy in Pueblo, Colorado. On June 25, 1960 they were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2016.
Jim grew up in Kentucky. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his Honorable Discharge, he moved to Canyon City, Colorado where he met and married Dona. They raised their family in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was a Master Electrician with the IBEW 357 for over 70 years. His work brought opportunities to work on the Alaskan Pipeline and at the Nevada Test Site.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was an important part of family life. Jim and Dona served in many different callings. In their later years, genealogy and Temple Work were central to their lives. As a young family, Karate became an important part of life. Jim learned from Chuck Norris and gladly helped his children grow a love for martial arts. In 1981, they moved to Overton, Nevada. A love for Blue Grass festivals was developed as the kids moved out. Jim and Dona learned to play various instruments and they enjoyed traveling to play and sing at many different festivals.
Survivors include one son and three daughters; Sandra Bledsoe; Heather (John) Bertoldo both of Las Vegas; Monte (Laura) and Arta (Arthur) Mortensen both of Overton; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and five half-siblings, Henri, Luke, Alice, Paula, and Sarilla.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Overton Chapel, 226 W. Thomas Street, Overton, NV. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery.
