Joe Herbert Hogan, 91, passed away on May 22, 2026 in Indian Springs, Nevada. Joe was born on December 3, 1934 in Conway, Arkansas to Cecil Stanford Hogan and Flossie Bea Watts. Joe joined the Untied States Navy in march of 1952 at the age of seventeen. He served in the Korean War, and was stationed on the USS LSM 110 and later on the USS Algol A.K.A. 54. He served in the “Operation Passage to Freedom”, an international operation of helping refugees flee to Saigon. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Joe became an electrician. Joe wanted to re-enlist, and in 1957, joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Nellis AFB and served with the Fire Department. He served at multiple bases, and in 1968, served a year in South Vietnam as a Helicopter Rescue Unit and received multiple commendations for his distinguished service. He would say he was preserved by his faith in the Lord.
He would later work at the Nevada Test Site as an Assistant Fire Chief, and after retiring after many years of service, couldn’t sit still, and worked at Green Valley Christian Church and School doing maintenance and driving a school bus. He was affectionally known as “Mr. Joe” by the students there. He would then work for Harley Davidson for six years before driving a limousine for “Always and Forever” Wedding Chapel.
While Joe enjoyed his working career, he loved his family the most. He met his wife, Gayle Darlene Sampson, and they were married on July 8, 1958 in Pioche, NV. They had two children together, Kelly Marie and Joe Stanford. They have many fond memories together of riding their horses, attending church service, and supporting their children many activities. Joe never missed a season of deer hunting. He loved going to the mountains with his family to stay at cabins and to go fishing.
Joe is survived by his wife, Gayle Hogan; his children, Kelly Marie (Randy) Marchello and Joe Stanford Hogan; his grandchildren, Dustin, Rustin (Megan), Adrienne (Andre) Bego, Aaron (Raven), Jesse, Joseph (Sandra), David, Tami (Joe), Brittany, and Chaz Clements; his seventeen great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Rebecca Quallls, John Hogan, and Bob Hogan
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Flossie Hogan; and his siblings.
