Wyatt Clell Mortensen, age 68, passed away Saturday morning, May 24, 2025 at his castle in Logandale, Nevada.
Wyatt was born February 20, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clell and Jeannette Mortensen of Granger, Utah. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Met McIntosh, on April 8, 1976 and was later sealed to her for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Wyatt tried a variety of vocations before starting a landscaping business, Nevada Green, which he and Connie owned and operated for over a decade. That was followed by a 29-year career at the City of Henderson.
Wyatt loved learning and experiencing new things. If there is such a thing as a Redneck Renaissance man, then Wyatt was it. He enjoyed playing a variety of sports, camping, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, skiing, and exploring the outdoors. But he was just as comfortable performing on stage, singing in the choir, playing in the band, or dancing the night away. He loved the classics but kept up with pop culture. He could weld or watercolor, dig ditches or do the dishes, defend his family with strength and courage or happily submit to a hair and nail makeover by his little girls. Wyatt was tough enough to wear pink, fluorescent pink in fact, way before that was the popular thing to do.
Wyatt served in many capacities for his church, his favorite being with the young children in Primary. He also volunteered for many years as a youth sports coach and firefighter/EMT. Wyatt loved rooting for the underdog and always opened his heart and home to those in need. He had a quiet confidence that allowed him to be approachable, gracious and a good listener.
Following a devastating stroke in 2016, Wyatt worked very hard to regain his strength and mobility so that he could continue to serve and support his family. He earned a mountain of medals walking and riding his trike all around town with his grandkids.
Wyatt was a loyal husband, devoted father and grandfather. He always made time to support his kids and grandkids in their various activities. His children and grandchildren thought he was hilarious. Wyatt leaves behind a legacy of love, service, sacrifice and cheesy one-liners that will be cherished throughout the years until his family is reunited again.
Wyatt is survived by his wife, Connie; three children: Cortnie (Arthur) Villezcas; Bryan (Emily) Mortensen; and Esther (Nick) Jones, all of Moapa Valley; sixteen grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene (Randy) Riser and Theresa (Rick) Withers, and his best-man and friend Scott Weber.
A Memorial Celebration Open House will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Mortensen Castle in Logandale. Friends and family are invited to sign our online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com
