Jose Mario Martinez

Jose Mario “Cheeseman” Martinez, passed away on February 17, 2023 in Moapa, NV. Mario was born on January 12, 1968 in Reno, Nevada to Jose and Audrey China Martinez. He attended MVHS and always played basketball with his friends. After his mother passed away, he moved away from Moapa. He moved around for some time before settling in Leeton, Utah where he met and fell in love with Lanay Arrats. They were soon married and raised three children together before her passing. He worked many years as a contractor and a jack-of-all-trades. He did paving, vehicle repair, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, and carpentry. He also loved playing darts and horseshoes. Mario had a heart of gold and went out of his way to help others. He was always helping the elders with their homes and vehicles. He was the type of person who would stand up for others and lift them up.

Mario is survived by his children, Keashia Arrats, Teia Arrats, Tesla Gomez, and Lupita Cordova; his nine grandchildren; and all of his extended family and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lanay Arrats; his parents, Jose and Audrey Martinez; and his sister, Anona Martinez.

A Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, 1-2:00 p.m. at the Moapa Band of Paiutes Tribal Building, 1 Lincoln Ave., Moapa, NV, followed by Funeral services 2-4:00 p.m., followed by a Traditional Sing at Sundown. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Sunrise at the Moapa Tribal Cemetery.
